Joseph Awino received his B.S. in Chemistry from Moi University (Kenya) in 2003. He held a brief teaching career handling both high school and college students, and later as a team manager in a pharmaceutical company. In 2010, Joseph began his graduate studies at Iowa State University (ISU), under the supervision of Professor Yan Zhao. After receiving his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from ISU in 2015, Dr. Awino moved to the University of Connecticut as Postdoctoral Fellow where he worked with Professor Jessica Rouge. His Postdoctoral research focused on the synthesis of nucleic acid nanoparticles for enzyme-triggered drug release and their therapeutic applications in the treatment of cancer. In 2016, Joseph joined Danaher Company at Hach as Production Support Chemist. He accepted the position of Chemistry Lecturer at Iowa State University in the Fall of 2017.
